I'm Jen and I've been living and coping with relapsing/remitting multiple sclerosis for about 11 years. Life can be difficult at times, but I don't let MS rule my world. There are many facets to my personality: I'm still adventuresome, creative, studious, and at the same time philosophical.
Some of my favorite things to do include fishing, golfing, walking, biking, cooking, and traveling. I love the outdoors and I try to enjoy it during the cooler months. This is when my husband and I hit the links or cast out poles in our river. We also enjoy bike riding around the neighborhood (health permitting.) I've most recently started experimenting with seasonal cooking recipes and I have my own website.
I've always loved to write, and when I began working from home as a freelance journalist, I decided to start my own MS website to share my personal experiences and tricks for coping with MS. I am also a contributing writer for South Jersey Mom magazine and most recently for New Mobility, a magazine for those with moderate to progressive forms of multiple sclerosis. Having formerly worked in the healthcare field (diagnostic ultrasound), I'm now enjoying the chance to write about health topics. This whole process has been deeply satisfying.
I now look to the future as I take psychology classes: I'm considering a potential career in professional counseling. A master's degree is under consideration as I continue with my health writings and my community service. I love volunteering at my local library as an English teacher for foreign-born patrons and as an assistant for a foster care reading project.
My life philosophy is very simple: keep active, maintain self, and try to help others in the process.
