MS Mom

I'm a single mom of two children: Ruby, aged 10, and Zane, aged 6. They were 8 and 4 when I was diagnosed. I told the kids I had MS as soon as I got the test results. I didn't want them to wonder what was going on since imagining the worst is always worse than the truth. They took it pretty well. They let me read them a story about a mommy with MS, they asked a couple questions, and then they wanted to watch TV. In the two years since then, Ruby and Zane have alternated between telling the whole world about my MS — teachers, people on the street, ex-in-laws, and anyone who would listen — and asking me why I always need to talk about it. In other words, they are kids. They just happen to have a mom with MS.
